  2. The socio economic characteristics of the households were assessed to gauge their association with precautionary measures to mitigate floods. These characteristics were educational level of the households, distance of main house to River Nyando, income level, marital status, occupation, household composition, social network type and dominant construction material of wall of main dwelling unit. Those characteristics highly associated with uptake had a p < 0.0001
